continued convo – faith?

December 7, 2008

I say this often, but today was a GREAT gathering for The Bridge. Props to the Children’s Choir for rocking the house (nice solo, Brianna!) as a teaser for this Friday’s prime-time performance at the Christmas Banquet.

I haven’t been as excited about preaching as I was today for a long, long time.  We looked at James 2:14-26 where James asks us to examine whether our faith is real faith or just a cheap substitute.  He says…

– If your faith doesn’t cause you to do good for the poor, it won’t do you any good either.

– Belief does not equal faith.

– True faith will always result in Christ-exalting, human-loving actions… always.

The biggest takeaway for me though wasn’t any of that.  I’m leaving this section of James astounded at how focused he was on the gospel message about forgiveness and freedom through faith in Jesus.  Think about it – James is writing to the church (James 1:1) and he still spends more time on the gospel than anything else in the whole book.  EVEN AFTER people claimed to have faith in Jesus, James still adopts a missional posture toward their souls.

I’m praying for God to awaken the same apostolic, fire-in-the-belly, radical, missional spirit within us… and I think I see Him starting to do it.  When we embrace that, watch out world.  Anything is possible…

PS – I think our kids’ choir should get some encouragement in our comments section.

Well, in every way, Sunday was awesome. Can’t wait to see more of the children singing, thanks so much Tammy and Shelley.

It is overwhelming to feel/see evidence of the Holy Spirit meeting with us during service. Knowing He meets with us, stays and dwells with us, is so humbling to me to see this love God has for us.
Pastor Josh, your messages – WOW!!
