countdown to V-Day

February 12, 2009

44981767-300x291Gentlemen, you’re welcome.  Consider this an official reminder that Valentine’s Day is THIS Saturday.

I just read a survey on Pete’s Blog (from which I ripped off this post) that Valentine’s Day is the 2nd biggest retail holiday of the year, but with things a little tighter this year we’re cutting back a tad.  Last year Americans spent $17 billion for V-day.  This year we’ll probably be in the $14.7 billion range (chump change).

The good news from the survey was that about 80% of Americans said that the economy had no effect on the frequency of sex in their marriage.  This is good news because God is a big fan of marital sex.

So maybe we can all help each other out a little here.  What are some Valentine’s Day ideas you’ve had that haven’t been too pricey?

Here you go Nathan and any other men that need low- cost or free ideas. Women appreciate love letters, walks in the park, songs written for them, or chores done around the house for them. They would love it if YOU cooked a meal, and had a candle-light dinner. They love it when YOU make arrangements for the babysitter.

Nathan – seriously, I was hoping for some help here too. I’m guessing she doesn’t want season tickets to Vandy Football so we can see SEC teams…

You guys are PITIFUL!!! ;0) Julie is right ~ do something without being asked, call the sitter, make plans and just do it! Even something like renting her favorite movie and watching it with her (after kids are in bed if you have kids) is great. And I mean really watch it with her…don’t sleep! Make a CD of the songs that used to remind you of each other when you were dating. Act like you’re still dating!!

Steve gets off easy – since our anniversary is on Feb 2. Yes. we got married on the other most romantic day in February – Ground Hog Day!! He knows that after 18 years of marriage I”m more than content w/ a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food ice cream and some alone time. (oh,,,,doesn’t that defeat the purpose of Valentine’s day?) 🙂 (And Josh….. I’d be more than content w/ SEC season tickets too!)

Sue, could you have that conversation with my wife tonight? Especially the part about the Vandy season tickets.

I just got home from work at 2:00am. It is Valentine’s Day. However, I read my wife’s comment a little too late. I am prepared though.

Ummm, It kinda scares me to think of what kind of song Ken might write for me…but getting a sitter on his own…that’s big time…!! For those of us with little ones, taking the kids out for awhile to give Mom some alone time…like fill up the tub with hot bubbly water, place your wife in the tub…take the kids out for awhile, tell her to get dressed, come back when she’s ready to go as if you are picking her up for a date, (arrive at home with the sitter) and take her for a restaurant without TV’s…I love sports as much as the next person–but this would be a nice way to show her you wanted to focus just on her…but surprising her with SEC tix…now that’s romantic!!
