Death By Love – wk 4

March 22, 2009

Great day today at The Bridge.  Not only was today the most beautiful day we’ve seen in five months… NOT only is March Madness gracing our televisions… NOT ONLY did Jana and I sell our condo last night (after 10 months!), but today The Bridge had its first meeting at our new property to unveil the floor plan and dream about what God might do.  It was sweet and I’ll post some pictures of floor plans later this week.

In the 2nd to last week of the Death By Love series we looked at Luke 9:23-25.  Jesus says,

If anyone would come after me let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.

In preparation for this sermon I read this paragraph from Francis Chan

Try to be COMPLETELY honest with yourself right now. Is the following true of you?

You passionately love Jesus, but you don’t really want to be like Him. You admire His humility, but you don’t want to be THAT humble. You think it’s beautiful that He washed the feet of the disciples, but that’s not exactly the direction your life is headed. You’re thankful He was spit upon and abused, but you would never let that happen to you. You praise Him for loving you enough to suffer during His whole time on earth, but you’re going to do everything within your power to make sure you enjoy your time down here.

In short: You think He’s a great Savior, but not a great role model.

The American church has abandoned the most simple and obvious truth of what it means to follow Jesus: You actually follow His pattern of life.

What do you think about this?  How have we let this happen to us?  HAVE we let this happen to us?
