a tribute to SM Lockridge

April 13, 2009

sm-lockridgeI hope no one could find a way to construe this as offensive, but I LOVE a good black preacher.  The timbre of the voice, the passion that stirs the soul, communication so rich that it blurs the line between poetry and preaching… it totally wrecks me.

This is SM Lockridge, a faithful pastor for 50 years who preached the excellency of Christ to his death in 2000.  SM Lockridge was not only a bastion of Christ-exulting theology and a once-in-a-generation gifted preacher, but he stood alongside Martin Luther King Jr during the civil rights movement of the 60’s.

We used a video at this week’s Easter worship gathering that featured a small segment of Dr. Lockridge’s famous sermon “That’s My King” and so many people asked about it that I wanted to pay tribute to Dr. Lockridge today.  The following are two videos that have been set to two segments of Dr. Lockridge’s preaching.  Amazing.

Seeing this for the first time today, it’s a shame that we have to view it as a possible way to “construe this as offensive” because he was black.
I saw this posted on facebook by a friend and she promised a blessing if it was viewed. Wow! Was she right!!
I read an article about Dr Lockridge in another post and it stated that “My King” was a result of him being asked to deliver a prayer at a convention. It was truly Spirit led that Dr. Lockridge would speak such inspiring words in a single prayer.
