Why do we…?

July 15, 2009

About six months ago I wrote a short series of blog posts to answer some of the most common questions our elders get asked about The Bridge.  As we’ve continued to grow some of these questions have popped up lately.  So whether you’re newer to The Bridge or just eavesdropping (which we like), here are three of the most common questions we get asked and our answers to them…

Why do we play “secular” songs before our worship gatherings?

Why is The Bridge led by a group of elders instead of “The Pastor”?

Why do we focus on just three main things at The Bridge?  (aka “Why don’t we have more programs at The Bridge?”)

The last one is probably the most often-asked question and/or discontent that people have with The Bridge, but I also believe it – more than almost any other strategic administrative decision we’ve ever made – is the greatest contributor to the current growth and health of The Bridge.

Josh, I’m SO glad you reposted these for newcomers, but for me, it’s about a week too late!! So funny! Last week, I was looking for those exact same posts for some potential bridgers, and the only way I could figure out how to get them was to keep clicking “previous entries” until we got to, like January. It was no big deal to me, but it’d be great if those important posts were easier for newcomers to see. Is there any way to archive “token” posts so that visitors can access them easily?

Thanks for writing these and posting them Josh. This stuff will be helpful for our church in Texas. We’re stuck having over 30 ministries going on at church thruout the week right now and trying to stop some of them for the same reasons you explained in the 3rd link. Once you launch them it’s almost impossible to cut them or people get mad. Trust us.

ps: great to be able to keep up with you on here

Going off what Andrea said…maybe a “Why Do We” link on the church’s website?

@Jonathan – Hope this helps, but even more than that I hope there’s unity in your church toward mission. Great to hear from you, man!

@Mary Bea and Andrea – hmm. I like this idea…
