Sunday afternoon thoughts…

July 26, 2009

Incredible day (again) for me at The Bridge.

Today was a day that I especially felt the weight of what was happening.  If you’ve missed us, today we started the process of seeking a man or men to serve alongside our 3 current elders on the elder body.

Some thoughts from today…

  • Thinking about getting a chance to be on a team with some of the Bridge men God might call to lead the church into this new chapter makes me absolutely GIDDY.
  • The bits of Ice Ice Baby the band did were off the chain (is that cool to say anymore?).  I think Isaac should model his look after Mr. Ice (above).
  • We’ll probably only have setup and teardown for about 5 more weeks.  I genuinely think we’ll miss that in some ways.
  • As heavy as the burdens are for church leadership, the joys are WAY bigger.  I wish I’d spent more time talking about that today.
  • The new elder(s) we appoint will lead the church into a new chapter that will probably see a lot of growth, at least one relocation, staffing decisions that will effect hundreds of souls, and will help crystallize some long-term vision questions about where we’re headed for the next 10-20 years.  No pressure.
  • The only time I studied more for a sermon in the last year than this week was the Homosexuality and the Gospel sermon during the Critical Questions series.
  • For the last two weeks we’ve set out 200 chairs – the same number we’ll have in our new building.
  • Fun thought – there were probably some kids in our Kids’ Ministry today that we’ll be praying over to appoint as elders for The Bridge 30 years from now.
  • I absolutely can’t WAIT to get some new perspective on what God is going to do in The Bridge from our new elder team member(s) when (t)he(y) come(s).

Onward and upward, Bridge family!  The best is yet to come…

I know my kids will miss the set up/tear down…funny thing is I don’t think they’d be sad if I told them they wouldn’t have to do chores at home anymore….hmmmm

Mary Bea – maybe they can clean the bathrooms at the new building so they’re not too disappointed when we move.
