Snowpocalypse 2010

February 1, 2010

Well, that was fun.

After a week of chuckling at weathermen and poking fun at all the people hysterically piling into grocery stores to stock up for the forecasted snow; Jana, me, my mom and brother found ourselves snowed in for two days without enough (oh, the irony) milk and bread for meals on Friday night and Saturday.  This was the view from our back window as freezing rain made our DRIVEWAY impassable to my wimpy Nissan Sentra…

But as is ALWAYS the case, “behind a frowing providence there lies a smiling face”.  What ensued for us was two days of some of the most fun family time I’ve had in years as we played about 20 consecutive games of the most addictive, fun boardgame ever invented: The Settlers of Catan.

So here’s a question for today: If you’re snowed in for two days with your family without being able to leave your house what is the most fun thing you can do?

I bake and bake and bake…but I was completely alone except for the pets! I should have done some cleaning and organizing…but nope. I also watched a bajillion episodes of I Dream of Jeannie & Bewitched that I had recorded on the DVR

one of the girls that I went to Russia with was obsessed with that game–I haven’t ever heard anyone else mention it!

We got to love on little Maddy while her little sister was being born. Veggie Tales, peanut butter sandwiches and a laundry basket that doubled as a sled–big, big fun! Thankfully her dad has a big truck and got her mom to the hospital right on time.

our life wasn’t too different, except that Daddy was home. that was a treat. we played more games than usual, and were inspired to dig out Settlers & play it — but you’ve far surpassed us in hours played!! spent a LOT of time sledding & watching laundry pile up from soggy sledding clothes!

I’d see if anyone was available to play a card game, or watch a movie, or something entertaining. Things are different w/ 2 brothers at college now, and if they were here, we’d probably have the same amount of fun we did when we all watched Eragon. We watched X-Men Origins Friday night, and if that were the case w/ Eragon, we’d all hang out in the bonus room and talk about X-Men and just have fun.
