Missions Update from Jackson Team (pt 1)

February 27, 2010

Tonight, after a long days work, 26 Bridgers, age 13 to 67, headed west to Jackson, TN to encourage and support a new church plant there. City Fellowship Church, pastored by Russ Pflasterer, occupies a renovated night club in the heart of the inner city. Because of this sweet location they have the amazing opportunity to connect with a diverse community. Since many of this new church are college students it’s inspiring to me to see their passion for moving into the community where their church building is in order to share daily life with those they are serving, many with tremendous needs and obstacles. They are then no longer objects of ministry and mission but their neighbors, fellow church members, and friends.

There’s a lot that we’ll be able to accomplish in one weekend, with a little elbow grease and a lot of co-laboring with City Fellowship, to hopefully provide them more ministry time and opportunities and less headaches and expense.
We’ll be building walls, ripping out floors, cleaning, painting, electrical work, cabinet building, and making a clothes closet for those in need of clothing in the community. We’re all gonna be crazy busy and loving it!

We are so excited to be here and for this to be the beginning of a great relationship between our churches. This trip isn’t about or for The Bridge but for Christ and we are honored to have this blessing of being co-laborers with our brothers and sisters at City Fellowship. Their passion for authentic relational evangelism is inspiring and contagious and my prayer is that they will be encouraged by our support to continue on this radical journey of sacrificial living in the heart of Jackson. Can’t wait to get crackin’!

Check out the blog tomorrow for an update from the Jackson Mission Trip – day 1!
